Summer 2013

Summer of 2013 brought us a number of Bark Beetle events.  On June 8th, we helped sponsor the Custer YMCA Bark Beetle Run in Custer State Park.  On July 22d, the Mountain Pine Beetles and Forestry Management session was held-a tour of an active timber sale operation. On July 23rd, Be a Bark Beetle Forester sessions were held, with activities for children at Custer State Park.  On July 24th, a Jasper Fire Nature Hike was held at Jewel Cave National Monument.  On July 26th, a Stockade Lake Nature Hike was held.   From July 22nd-26th Leonard Running and Sue Hey of Butterfly Puppet Theatre worked with children at the YMCA day camp to make beetle puppets (sponsored by the Custer Area and South Dakota Arts Councils). On July 27th the children were on parade with their beetle and forest inspired puppets in the Custer Gold Discovery Days Parade.
